Our “Sally Boxes” are small, AI-driven conversational gadgets designed to simulate real-life social interactions. Each box is like a mini conversationalist, equipped with a microphone and speaker, ready to “talk” and “listen” just like a human. We created these boxes as an alternative to filling our lab with people (which we’d love to do, but let’s face it, not super practical!). With Sally Boxes, we can bring that lively environment to our testing space and see how our memory aids perform under real-world conditions.
Our first box, fittingly named “Sally,” takes on the role of a friendly, chatty neighbor. She’s programmed to ask those everyday questions you might hear from someone down the street—family updates, neighborhood happenings—perfect for testing our memory aids in real-life scenarios. We’re able to observe how people respond in real room acoustics and under authentic, day-to-day prompts, without needing a crowd of testers on hand.
Expanding the Sally Box Crew
Sally’s just the beginning! We’re creating more boxes, each with its own personality and style. Imagine a room where a handful of these boxes represent different “characters,” bringing diverse conversations to life. Eventually, we’re planning to have them interact not just with users, but with each other—simulating multi-person conversations that our users might encounter, and allowing us to fine-tune the way our memory aids work in more complex, social settings.
This dynamic, AI-powered “social environment” lets us test everything from subtle prompts to full conversations, helping us refine our products to be helpful, engaging, and unobtrusive. The goal? That perfect balance—not too quiet, not too loud—where our products feel like genuine companions, offering just the right amount of support.
