Voice of Reason AI Approach
At Voice of Reason AI, we are constantly exploring new ways to enhance the lives of those with brain disabilities, and one of our key strategies is to design AI that feels as human as possible. Our latest developments, particularly with the VOR Oracle system, are based on the notion that treating AI more humanely results in better outcomes—a philosophy we are actively testing.
The Dual-System Thinking Behind Our Approach
Humans have a remarkable ability to engage in two distinct types of thinking: fast and intuitive decision-making, as well as slow and deliberate problem-solving. This idea, famously outlined by Daniel Kahneman in his behavioral science theory, describes these modes of thought as System 1 (quick, instinctive reactions) and System 2 (slower, more logical reasoning). As a recent paper on large language models (LLMs) highlights, AI can mirror these human cognitive processes through a "Talker-Reasoner" architecture. The Talker handles immediate conversational responses, akin to System 1, while the Reasoner focuses on complex reasoning and planning, like System 2.
This dual-system model provides insight into how AI can be designed to engage in natural conversation while simultaneously reasoning through more complicated tasks. At Voice of Reason AI, we see great potential in this architecture and have aligned our product development with this vision. Voice of Reason AI's Oracle System
The VOR Oracle system is our next-generation memory aid that integrates seamlessly into the patient's living environment. It's part of our suite of VOR audio aids, including smart glasses, AirPods, and hearing aids, designed to provide real-time memory support without the need for complex interfaces. Oracle serves as a virtual companion, offering subtle guidance and memory training tailored to individuals with dementia or other cognitive challenges.
We see parallels between the Talker-Reasoner approach and our Oracle system. Oracle intuitively responds to the user's immediate needs, acting much like System 1, while engaging in deeper reasoning tasks behind the scenes, similar to System 2. This ability to both react instantly and plan strategically makes Oracle an ideal solution for supporting real-world memory, offering guidance in a way that feels natural and human.
Testing the Human Element in AI
Our philosophy aligns with the idea that AI trained on cooperative and positive human interactions will yield more productive results. Since LLMs are essentially probability models shaped by the data they learn from, inputs that emphasize collaboration and empathy will likely lead to more constructive outputs. This resonates with the saying, "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." We believe that by embedding AI with the best of human nature—kindness, patience, and understanding—we can create systems that offer superior results for those who rely on them.
At Voice of Reason AI, we are testing this humane approach to AI, leveraging the latest research and building systems that prioritize the user's experience and dignity. As the paper on dual-system AI points out, this approach mirrors human thinking in a way that makes our technology not just effective, but also compassionate. By combining intuitive responses with deliberate reasoning, we aim to create AI that feels less like a machine and more like a true assistant.
Moving Forward
As we continue to refine the VOR Oracle system and expand our suite of audio aids, our focus remains on integrating these AI systems in a way that serves the real-world needs of our users. By drawing on the insights from cutting-edge research and behavioral science, we are committed to developing technology that is both intelligent and humane.
Voice of Reason AI is not just building tools; we are building companions that offer real-time, interfaceless memory support to those who need it most. With the help of approaches like the Talker-Reasoner model, we are moving closer to our goal of making AI a truly supportive presence in the lives of people with brain disabilities.
